About the Residency:

Artist’s will be selected for a month long time slot from January 3rd to January 31st with 24-hour studio access. The YARDS will be divided into 4 spaces, division of space depends on the needs of each individuals medium. With close proximity to the other residents creative energy fills the space and fosters the opportunity for collaboration. During the month, there will be a handful of opportunities for artists to present their past and present work with fellow residents, the YARDS team, and the Rochester community. The YARDS will also host open studio sessions during Saturday market hours as well as a final open studio for the close of the residency.

About the Space:

THE YARDS was founded by artists Sarah C. Rutherford and Lea Rizzo. While the focus of the YARDS has remained in the spirit of collaboration, it has thus far been focused around exhibits and events. The two artists are excited to bring the focus for the month of January back to the creation. Please note, these studio spaces will still be offered in a collaborative atmosphere, as there are no dividing walls between artists. While collaboration between resident artists is by no means mandatory, we hope the diverse atmosphere will spark new ideas and ventures.

Two Years at the Yards

This month marks our 2-year anniversary here at the Yards. Last year we did a little retrospective of the great events and memories of our first year, and here is a little look back at our second. We are grateful to the incredible community of friends, supporters, helpers, and collaborators  who make it possible for us to do what we do, and look forward to the next exciting year of collaborations and connections.

Check back soon for an update our two-year celebration- The Spectral Carnival. We have a lot of fun in store for you and hope you will come out and celebrate with us!

In the meantime, check out this little look back at just some of the many wonderful, varied moments that made up the last twelve months here at the Yards.
