BOYS VS. GIRLS
Hosted by 1975 and THE YARDS
Opening night – Saturday, January 18th from 6-10pm
Come celebrate the second installment of BOYS VS GIRLS, a knock-down, drag-out art battle using cardboard as the medium. Two local galleries, 1975 (Gents) and The Yards (Ladies) have each put together a gang of 20 artists who have cut, scraped, scrolled, scratched and painted sixteen-thousand boxes! Since this is a dual-gallery exhibit, check out both galleries and cast your vote for the winner of the second-annual BOYS VS GIRLS cardboard extravaganza!
The show runs in each gallery from January 18th until February 8th.

This month marks our 2-year anniversary here at the Yards. Last year we did a little retrospective of the great events and memories of our first year, and here is a little look back at our second. We are grateful to the incredible community of friends, supporters, helpers, and collaborators who make it possible for us to do what we do, and look forward to the next exciting year of collaborations and connections.
Check back soon for an update our two-year celebration- The Spectral Carnival. We have a lot of fun in store for you and hope you will come out and celebrate with us!
In the meantime, check out this little look back at just some of the many wonderful, varied moments that made up the last twelve months here at the Yards.

Based on a True Story: an Investigation of Family and Self through Narrative Objects
An MFA Thesis Exhibition by Wil Eldridge Sideman
Rochester Institute of Technology School for American Crafts Glass Program
Opening Reception: Saturday, April 20th, 6-9pm
Show runs through May 12th.
Wil Sideman’s exhibition contains works derived from objects in his family history, which he used to research and explore concepts of family and self-identity. Working from site visits, memories, and family stories, he has created individual sculptures using glass as the primary material. Based On A True Story is an exhibition of work that pays tribute to the makers that came before Wil in his family and furthers his understanding of the narrative objects he has admired throughout his life.

We are excited to announce that for the month of August, we will be opening our doors to fellow artists for our first YARDS RESIDENCY!
During this time, THE YARDS will be divided into 4 spaces (about 200 sq. ft each). 4 Artists will be selected for each 2 week time slot. During the 2 week period, there will be an opportunity for you to present your past work with your fellow residents, THE YARDS team, and the Rochester community. We will also host open studios during Saturday Market hours.
THE YARDS was founded by artists Sarah C. Rutherford and Lea Rizzo. While the focus of the YARDS has remained in the spirit of collaboration, it has thus far been focused around exhibits and events. The two artists are excited to bring the focus for the month of August back to the creation. Please note, these studio spaces will still be offered in a collaborative atmosphere, as there are no dividing walls between artists. While collaboration between resident artists is by no means mandatory, we hope the creatively rich and diverse atmosphere will spark new ideas and ventures.
Please let us know if you have any questions and we look forward to your applications!
